Sailing to a Sunset

Suzanne Herman is a wonderful pianist, she is one of a few pianists who can literally take me to a location through her music, and allow me to thoroughly enjoy the experience through her crafted presentations. Here on her brand new single entitled Sailing to a Sunset, we have just that and more.
However I never expected the emotional response my mind would give me during a most emotive listening experience, until I realized that although I live on the other side of the world, the sunsets of both Cyprus and Florida are very similar, it is a time each day when people simply stop in their tracks for around half an hour, and watch a beautiful orange orb disappear below the oceanic horizon, memorized in beauty.
This new single for me was and in fact is an anthem for that moment, and I would go as far to say that Suzanne’s sublime piano performance is a reminder to us all to stop and appreciate our lives and our planet, so we can literally drink in the gratitude and that moment.
Her presentation is a moving opus of piano brilliance, she paints the sunset, she manifests tones that show the gentle moment of the sun, and the changing textures of the sky, and her manifestation brings that all together in a melodic and incredibly emotional arrangement. This folks is descriptive piano music at its very best, this is most certainly one you really should not miss at all costs.

When was the last time you had to make a life-changing decision or you struggled with what the future may bring? These important situations do not occur often, but when they do, it can sometimes be overwhelming. Recently, I had this experience. A huge decision loomed before me. If this is something you have experienced, you will appreciate the newly released video on my YouTube channel. The photography and videography, by my husband, Jeff, is captivating, and showcases the composition Tomorrow’s Journey, from my album Cascades of Time. This music was written to encourage wisdom at times when important decisions must be made, and for when there is aspiration for future hope and endurance.

Mainly Piano/Kathy Parsons Sailing to a Sunset single review

“Sailing to a Sunset” is a beautiful solo piano single composed and performed by Suzanne Herman, a longtime piano teacher who lives on the west coast of Florida. Suzanne describes the inspiration for the music:
“The west coast of Florida has iconic sunsets. Suzanne’s favorite local beach is Anna Maria Island, especially the northern most point. It’s where Tampa Bay meets the Gulf of Mexico. No two sunsets are ever alike; each one is different and unique. Experiencing a sunset is saying good-bye to yet another day. Whether you walk the beach or are sailing to the horizon, people never get tired of watching a sunset.”
Gracefully flowing and very expressive, the music makes it easy to imagine the many colors of a sunset reflected off of the surface of the water, turning everything bright shades of orange, red, and yellow before gradually softening to pastel hues as the sun slowly disappears into the ocean. Relaxed and dreamy with a colorful sparkle, it’s an exceptional piece of music.
“Sailing to a Sunset” is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and streaming sites including Spotify. Sheet music is also available and is reviewed here on MainlyPiano.com as well. Very highly recommended!
Mainly Piano/Kathy Parsons Sailing to a Sunset sheet music review

“Sailing to a Sunset” is the companion solo piano sheet music for Suzanne Herman’s recording (released as a single) by the same name. Smooth and dreamy, this piece beautifully describes the peaceful feeling of watching the sun as it gradually sets over and then into the ocean. Suzanne lives on the west coast of Florida, where amazing sunsets are an everyday occurrence and people never tire of watching them. The sheet music is flowing and graceful as it expresses the beauty of the experience.
“Sailing to a Sunset” is composed in the key of F minor (4 flats) and is relatively slow (Andantino), so it isn’t difficult to play – I’d call it upper-intermediate to early-advanced. There are no reaches of more than an octave. Suzanne has included fingering for the trickier passages, which really helps! Dynamics, tempo changes , and phrasing are clearly marked, making this an excellent teaching piece for students of all ages (especially teens and adults) as well as music for personal enjoyment.
“Sailing to a Sunset” is available from Suzanne Herman’s website as well as from SheetMusicPlus.com and SheetMusicDirect.com. The recording is also reviewed on MainlyPiano.com. Highly recommended!

Dancing Lights Sheet Music Review – Mainly Piano
“Dancing Lights” is the companion sheet music for Suzanne Herman’s 2022 solo piano single by the same name. Bright and lively, the music was inspired by watching the colored lights on Florida’s Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay reflected in the water and appearing to “dance.” The notes flow like ripples on the water, creating a colorful picture in sound. Written in the key of D Major (2 sharps), the sheet music should be fairly easy to master by pianists at an upper-intermediate/ early-advanced playing level. The timing is very straight-forward and there are no reaches of more than an octave. Suzanne is a longtime piano teacher herself, and her music is very suitable for students of all ages to learn for lessons and/or recitals. The piece is 5 1/2 pages long and the recording runs a little longer than three minutes. It’s a beautiful piece and a lot of fun to play! (The recording is also reviewed on MainlyPiano.com.)
The “Dancing Lights” single and sheet music are available from Suzanne’s website.
Dancing Lights Review – Mainly Piano
“Dancing Lights” is a beautiful solo piano single from pianist/composer Suzanne Herman. Suzanne describes the piece herself:
“At night, when the sky becomes dark, a fascinating scene can be experienced. From the northern point of Anna Maria Island, on Florida’s beautiful west coast, colorful lights glisten across Tampa Bay. It is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, sparkling on the water with different light colors and patterns every night. The brilliant, changing display of shimmering lights truly appear to dance on the water! It is mesmerizing!”
Bright and expressive, the flowing notes evoke images of the colorful lights as they reflect off the rippling water – hypnotic and captivating! It is Suzanne’s sincere desire for this music “to help provide a hopeful outlook, perseverance towards resiliency, and calming strength for the Floridians rebuilding from Hurricane Ian.” As a resident of Florida herself, this is especially meaningful!
“Dancing Lights” is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and streaming sites such as Spotify. Sheet music for the piece is also available and is reviewed here on MainlyPiano.com.
